Last summer I took on Costa Rica, volunteering in a natural reserve in the mountains and with time to explore the country. During my gap year, I was inspired by my friend who kept a hilariously accurate but reflective blog of her experiences and thoughts of her time in South America. Travelling is an exciting, challenging and often humorous experience and I found it surprisingly enjoyable to reflect on my experiences while writing a blog.
This year my challenge is of a slightly different nature. Excitingly, I am travelling to Africa this year and in a moment of over-enthusiasm I signed up to run a marathon, which will culminate the ‘summer’ in October.
Combining training, travelling and writing to learn more about the issues of development which will be topped off with fundraising for a target of £1000 for Renewable World, an exciting summer lies ahead!
Why intertemporal?
“Intertemporal change” is a term that will highlight the nerd within me.
An economic term reflecting how the decisions of today affect the options that will be available in the future, it struck me as relevant in so many different ways. Whilst our economic decisions will of course affect future generations, so will nearly every other decision we make. I feel we should always aim to consider the consequences of our actions and, although I could write an essay about the disadvantages of cost- benefit analysis, it has never been more important to consider the long term effects of our actions. I hope that this summer I can become involved in the fresh international movement to take the world economy forward onto a sustainable track to enable all countries to flourish and reach their full potential in future millennia.
